Robert L. Hill of Armada passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Troy at the age of 79 years.
Robert was born April 3, 1934 John and Margaret (nee Genther) Hill. In 1960, Robert married Shirleyan Proctor. He graduated from Alma College and received his Master of Education Degree from Eastern Michigan University. Robert was a teacher at Carson City, Armada and in 1985 retired from the Utica School District. He coached football and softball at Stevenson High School and volleyball at Macomb Community College. Robert was inducted into Macomb County Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame and was a Michigan High School Athletic Association Referee for 55 years. He was involved in many organizations and served in various positions for the Armada Lions Club where he was a Life Member receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and was a Past District Governor for the Lions of Michigan, a member of the Armada Amvets and Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and softball. To many people he was known as Bobby, Pepper, Armada Tamata and Roger. Later in life, he became a self-proclaimed "master of mowing".
Robert is survived by his wife, Shirleyan (nee Proctor); daughters, Tracy (Dwayne) Maurer, Jamie (Alan) Schneider, Kellie (Bill) Beck and Robyn (Russ) DiCristofaro; grandchildren, Amanda, Kody, Sarah, Shane and Erin; brother, Tom (Beverly) Hill; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, John and Margaret (nee Genther) Hill and siblings, Albert, Jack, Don and Mary Lou.
A memorial visitation will take place on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at noon with a 1 p.m. service at Tiffany-Young and Hauss Funeral Home, 73919 North Ave., Armada followed by a celebration of Robert's life at the Armada Amvets Hall.
