Obituary

          Jack Murphy of Shelby Township died on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at his home at the age of 83 years.


          Jack was born September 4, 1928 in Windsor, Canada, a son of James and Elizabeth (nee Carrigan) Murphy.  Jack served in the United States Army as a paratrooper.  On July 2, 1949, Jack married Ollie Chmill in Canada.  He retired from General Motors where he was an engineer.  Jack was a former professional football player in the Canadian Football League as a member of the Windsor Rockets and Ottawa Rough Riders.  He was a member of the Rochester Older Persons Commission and enjoyed golfing and hunting.


          Jack is survived by his son, John (Shawn) Murphy of Macomb Township; daughters, Patricia Murphy of Rochester Hills, Janice (Thomas) Cookson of Macomb Township and Karen (Robert) Roussey of White Lake Township; grandchildren, Matthew Cookson, Christina Cookson, Ryan Murphy and Jamie Murphy.  Jack was predeceased by his wife, Ollie on August 5, 1990; granddaughter, Danielle Murphy; and siblings, James, Thomas and Alex Murphy and Betty Johnson.


          A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Chapel, 47120 Romeo Plank, Macomb with the Rev. Michael J. Lutz officiating.


          Visitation is Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hauss Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb and at church on Friday from 10 a.m. to the 11 a.m. service.
